Blur or Pixelate Part of a Photo Online, Privately

Updated Oct 30, 2026 3 min read
Quick answer

Drag a box over the part of the picture you want to hide, then choose pixelate, blur or a solid box. Download the result as PNG or JPEG. The image is processed in your browser and never uploaded. For text and numbers use the solid box, because blur and pixelation are not always irreversible.

How it works, and why nothing is uploaded

The picture is drawn onto a canvas in your browser. The effect is applied to the pixels inside the box you draw and nowhere else. When you save, the browser writes a new PNG or JPEG from those pixels. That new file carries no EXIF or location data.

Pick the right effect

EffectGood forCaution
Solid boxText, numbers, passport and card detailsSafest. Nothing remains under it.
PixelateFaces, house numbers, number platesUse large blocks. Small blocks can sometimes be partly recovered.
BlurFaces and backgroundsA light blur can sometimes be reversed. Use a strong setting.

Tips

  • Cover a bit more than the sensitive area.
  • Save the result as a new file. Keep the original somewhere safe or delete it.
  • Look at the saved file at full size before you share it.

What it does not do

  • It does not recognise faces or text automatically. You choose the area.
  • It does not edit the original file on your disk.
  • Huge images are scaled down to fit browser limits. The tool tells you when it does that.

Frequently asked questions

Is a blur secure enough for a password or ID number?

No. Use the solid box. Blurs and pixelation can sometimes be partly reversed.

Does this tool upload my image?

No. It runs in your browser.

Does the saved file keep location data?

No. The browser writes a fresh file from the pixels, with no EXIF.

Can I undo a change?

Yes. Use Undo to step back through your last edits.
